Sugar was struck by a vehicle in January outside of Dallas, TX. Witnesses estimated the vehicle was going 70+ mph. Luckily, one of the witnesses was compassionate enough to pick her up and take her home with her. After seeing her plea for help on Facebook, we knew time was of the essence for medical care. Our foster got her into a local vet who initially suggested we should put Sugar down because she didn't think her legs would be repairable. She had shattered both her hind legs, one being a compound fracture. It was her opinion that she would never be able to bear weight on either leg, and the one with the compound needed to be amputated.
Refusing that this was the end for this sweet baby girl, we set out to find the 2nd opinion of a specialist. The specialist said it would be no issue in saving Sugar's legs and that he had worked on a lot worse. Pictured above are the before and after X-rays of Sugar's legs so you can see what an amazing job he did repairing them.
She still has a lot of rehab to go before she adopted out. She is walking fine, but she is battling an infection in the leg that had the compound fracture, so it is critical she has consistent and thorough care to make sure she heals fully.
